Terms of Service
Effective August 11, 2026
These terms are intentionally short and plain. By using The Hifz Project, you agree to them.
The service
The Hifz Project is a free web app for memorizing the Quran using spaced repetition. All memorization features, every surah, ayah, and word, plus scheduling and progress tracking, are free, with no ads.
Paid plans
Paid plans buy additional voice-recitation usage or classroom seats; the memorization features described above remain free. Individual usage plans range from $5 to $20 per month, each with a monthly allowance of voice recitations. Every individual plan is also available billed yearly at ten times the monthly price (two months free), with the same monthly allowance. The free tier also includes a small monthly allowance. Billing works like this:
- New accounts can try Voice free for 7 days, no card required, nothing to cancel; it simply ends. One trial per person (we check reasonable variants of the same email address), with a daily recitation cap during the trial.
- Classroom plans are billed per seat ($2/student/month). Each occupied seat grants that student the Voice tier's monthly allowance; the teacher can change seat counts (prorated) or cancel at any time, and access runs until the period ends.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.
- You can cancel or switch plans anytime through the Stripe billing portal (Settings, Manage subscription). Plan changes are prorated; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep voice access until then.
- Unused recitation allowance doesn't roll over to the next month.
- Prices and allowances may change in the future; we'll notify you before any change affects you.
Your account
You're responsible for your account and keeping your password secure. Before deleting your account, you must cancel any personal or classroom plan and wait for its paid period to end. You can then delete the account from Settings, under Danger Zone, which permanently erases your account and learning data. If you used the free Voice trial, the minimal anti-abuse record described in the Privacy Policy remains. Stripe may also retain transaction or billing records under its own data-retention practices.
Acceptable use
Use the app for its intended purpose, memorizing the Quran. Don't abuse the service: no attempting to break, overload, or gain unauthorized access to it, no scraping or reselling it, and no circumventing rate limits or subscription checks. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the service.
No warranty
The Hifz Project is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. It's a free project built for the ummah, we work hard to keep it reliable, but we can't guarantee it will always be available, error-free, or that your data will never be lost. Quran text and audio come from third-party APIs (quran.com and alquran.cloud). Voice transcription and hadith meaning comparison use automated models, and tajweed feedback uses automated heuristics; each can make mistakes.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Hifz Project and its contributors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which, for free users, is nothing.
Termination
You can stop using the service or delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. If we terminate a paid account without cause, we'll refund the unused portion of the current billing period.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. When we do, we'll update this page and the effective date above. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
